On a quiet Christmas Eve, a thin layer of snow lies over the roofs of the village. Candles burn in the church, and people slowly enter for the Christmas service. It is quiet, almost magically silent.
Then five singers begin to sing at the front of the church. No instruments, just voices that blend together perfectly. They are the members of Pentatonix.
The song they are singing is O Holy Night.
The first notes sound soft and clear. One voice begins, and then the other voices join in. Together, they form a beautiful harmony that echoes throughout the entire church. It almost seems as if the music is floating out through the high windows, into the cold winter air.
A boy in the church listens breathlessly. He has heard the song before, but never like this. Without instruments, it sounds as if the voices themselves are the orchestra.
When the song reaches the big, powerful section — “Fall on your knees…” — the voices become increasingly full and impressive. Some people get goosebumps, others close their eyes for a moment to hold onto it.
When the song ends, it is completely silent for a few seconds.
And then everyone starts applauding.
The boy whispers to his mother:
“It was just like the stars were singing along.”
And perhaps, on that special Christmas Eve, that was just a little bit true. ✨🎄
