Based in Northamptonshire, England, Pamela Ward and Paul Cherrington have been playing and writing music for 30 years. From winning the Brewhouse Music prize in 1987 they have toured the U.K. and parts of the Middle East and Mediterranean.
They have been session recording artists and studio guests for a variety of projects, including late night programmes The Early Show and Night Ride for BBC Radio 2 and commissioned work from Japan and Denmark.
They have also performed over 500 concerts on behalf of “Music In Hospitals” playing in hospitals, day centres, hospices and care homes from St Ives in Cornwall to Berwick upon Tweed, from Jersey to Northern Ireland.
They are acclaimed song writers and finalists in international song writing competitions. Much of their work has been recorded, broadcast and performed by other artists on the folk circuit.
This latest song is called On St. Stephen’s Day which Pam and Paul wrote in celebration of the Grenoside longsword dancers in Pam’s home town of Sheffield. She has fond memories of watching the dancers at Christmas time. They are a traditional sword dancing team and each year on Boxing Day dance outside the local pub called the Harrow.
The team consists of six dancers, a captain and a musician, fiddler or melodeon player.
This tradition has been going on for nearly 200 years
