Them Alone

Them Alone is an indie folk duo formed by Juan Arencibia (lead vocals, guitar) and Steven van der Steen (backing vocals, guitar).

They are influenced by a wide range of artists: Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sigur Rós, Ryan Adams, and Kings of Convenience, to name but a few.

Juan’s songs draw on relatable aspects of his life, including parenthood, love, and friendship, without resorting to cliché. In 2025 they released two singles, Crossroads and Red Balloon. On 5 December they will release One More Charade, their take on a Christmas song.

Juan and Steven met in 2017 and started playing as Them Alone in 2024. The band was born of the desire to make an acoustic record that they could play live with a small set-up. With that goal in mind, they spent much of last year holed up in Steven’s basement studio, working on the 11 songs that make up the album.

The record is a nod to the ‘MTV Unplugged’ sessions of the 1990s, with intimate songs that are often confessional in tone.
